1. Combine onion, lime juice, and garlic in meals processor. Process till onion is finely minced. Transfer to massive resealable meals storage bag. Add cumin, oregano, thyme, and purple pepper; knead bag till blended. Place rooster in bag; press out air and seal. Turn to coat rooster with marinade. Refrigerate 30 minutes or as much as four hours, turning sometimes.
2. Spray grid with nonstick cooking spray. Prepare grill for direct cooking. Remove rooster from marinade; discard marinade. Place rooster on grid. Grill 5 to 7 minutes on all sides over medium warmth, or till rooster is not pink in heart. Transfer to wash serving platter and garnish with cilantro, if desired.
